Digital: the hardback edition

Here I am, furiously studying for my MSc, when a thought struck me.

Given that this is a course on digital marketing communications, why has my book collection increased over the past few months?

Welcome to the world of tomorrow!

Fuelled by this week’s MSc “homework”, I have been engaged in quite a few conversations about innovations and near-future technology. What I found was that is becoming more and more commonplace to find technology in the real world that featured in science-fiction stories. What is scary, however, is how fast the predicitions in fiction are becoming true (perhaps there is a need to re-write Moore’s Law to reflect this?). In this first part of a series of my take on real-world use of fantastic technology I am looking at the Gesture User Interface — trail-blazed by Apple’s iPod Touch, iPhone and, most recently, the iPad. Finally!

It’s taken me a long time to sort myself out with my blog, having gone through at least four different styles and names — now that it is a new year and I have finally made it to my 40s, I’m pretty happy with it! More >

Bot or Not

Essentially the aim is to tweet a random bunch of brand names and industry-specific acronyms (SEO, PPC, etc) to see if I gain any automated followers and, more importantly, to see which brands have a humanised buzz monitoring strategy in place. More >

The start of a new phase

I have recently started studying a 3-year part-time MSc in Digital Marketing Communications. The reason I chose to do this was because I felt I have worked in the digital industry since 1997 and because I have been self-taught all this time, perhaps I would benefit from some focused learning in this area. Officially freaked out

So, I’m currently working in Toronto for a week, staying in a nice downtown hotel. Imagine my surprise when I opened by hotel room safe and found the following note: More >

Solo dining part 2

Good news!

My pizza came and it was fab! Hunger sated and mood better — nice!

Solo dining

I know I may come across as Billy No-mates, but quite honestly I have never felt more like a leper than right now. More >

Adventures in Manchester, part 1

On Saturday evening I gathered some friends and made the decision to go and see the new Star Trek film at the IMAX in Manchester.

Sounds like a good idea right? I thought so. We’d meet up, grab something to eat, see the film and go for a few beers in the city centre. It almost went to plan …
